The Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, launched SAFAL on the one year anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020. He spoke about the importance of SAFAL in removing fear of examinations and promoting innovation in education.

The SAFAL handbook is a key resource which coveys the purpose behind conducting key stage assessments in schools. It highlights the assessment framework and the process of item development undertaken in SAFAL. It also explains the usage of assessment data and reporting mechanisms at the school level.

Language Framework Handbook

The proposed assessment framework for Language has been designed to assess the student’s reading competencies across grades 3, 5 and 8. The domain of reading has been represented in a broader sense to include foundational literacy skills (or building blocks) as well as reading comprehension.

The proposed assessment framework for Mathematics has been designed to assess the student’s competencies in mathematics across grades 3, 5 and 8. The domain of mathematics has been designed to include foundational numeracy and mathematical skills.
